A prompt is a request to the AI to provide a response, but a request can be many things. Those things include a role for the AI to assume, examples of the types of output you’d like to see, a context to place the request within, a format to specify the look and feel of the response, and constraints to give the response filters and bounds. Without some or all of these things, a prompt leaves it up to the imagination of the AI to determine these things. And that’s where we see the AI making things up, or “hallucation”, which is merely the AI’s way of responding to an inadequate prompt. In our prompt we need to try and specify the job you want the aI to do, such as “be a teacher”, “act like a lawyer”, or “give me ideas like a creative artist”.
